1. Temp job (临时工,零工): short for temporary job, a job taken for a short while; "to temp" is to work at a temporary job. Many young people temp during their university holidays, or fill in time while they look for a good job that they want to do for a longer time.

eg. "What're you doing during the holidays Mary?" "I'm planning to temp for a month in London, then use the money to go traveling around Europe."

2. Chick magnet (少女杀手): a boy who attracts a lot of females; a lighthearted way men might praise their mates.

eg. "James has so many girlfriends. He's a total chick magnet." "Yeah what is it about him that girls like so much?"

Similar phrase: "babe magnet"; both usually mean someone who is sexually attractive.

3. Root for someone (支持): offer support.

eg. "Don't sweat about your interview Jane, we're all rooting for you to get the job. You deserve the position."

Similar phrase: "we've got our fingers crossed for you". To cross your middle fingure over your index figure is a sign of good luck.

4. Spoil your appetite (破坏食欲): fill up on junk food (or any other kind of food) before your proper meal so that you don't feel like eating; parents often complain about this to their kids: "No, I already told you, you can't have any more sweets. You'll spoil your appetite and Grandma will be hurt because you don't eat."

5. Tool (傻瓜,笨蛋): mildly insulting term; generally said with humour; similar words: "idiot", "fool", "wally", "prat."

eg. "Look at the way Tom approaches the ladies. He's never going to get anyone if he keeps acting like such a tool."
