It has twice won the Best World<br />Music Award from the West Coast and was also nominated for a Juno Award. Silk<br />Road uses its innovative approach of classical Chinese music to promote<br />cultural links with non-Asian traditions, reflecting the true multicultural<br />spirit of immigrants in Canada.<br /> <br />Qiu Xia He is a virtuoso Chinese pipa performer,<br />recording artist, composer and producer who is changing and enhancing the<br />musical world around her. She collaborates with the world&#039;s best musicians and<br />hangs out on the cutting edge of cross-cultural fusions of world music.<br />While creating exciting sounds and rhythms that simply haven&#039;t been heard<br />before, she also makes the world a better place through her musical<br />brilliance, warmth and charming presence. Qiu Xia opens musical windows of<br />understanding.<br /> <br />Xiao-Nan Wang was a professional flutist in China before being banned<br />from playing during the Cultural Revolution. He was deported and settled in<br />Winnipeg where he remained largely unknown until discovered by movie<br />director Guy Madden who featured him prominently in his 2003 movie<br />&quot;The Saddest Music in the World&quot;.<br /> <br />This concert will include feature sets by both artists as well as a special<br />collaboration.<br />
